Gold Coast to host the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships

The Gold Coast is once again preparing for the next humongous wave as it will be the host of another epic surfing competition in April—the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.

Bringing you some of the most notable sporting events in the country and across the globe, the Gold Coast is again proud to be home to the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships to be held on 11 to 19 April in Kirra North.

The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships promises and wicked weekend filled with exciting action and a spectacular surfing event in one of the most iconic surfing destinations in the world.

Making a return on the Gold Coast, the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships will be celebrating its 100th year in bringing you one of the best surfing competitions on earth. Originally called ‘The Aussies’, this surfing spectacle first took places in March of 1915 on the Bondi Beach. The Aussies eventually became one of the most celebrated surfing events in the Australian sporting calendar, as big as that of the Commonwealth Games.

For 2015, the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships will gather 7,000 Surf Lifesavers representing 311 Surf Clubs who will all battle it out across two kilometres of beach in more than 380 events all through the nine days of ultimate surfing action.

The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships will present various challenges such as the Youth, Masters and Open competition.

The Youth Championships will gather participants in North Kirra to be held on 11 to 12 April and will also feature races for U14 and U15 competitors.

You can also catch the Australian Masters Surf Life Saving Championships to take place on 13 to 14 April, and the Australian Open Surf Life Saving Championship which will be held on 15 to 19 April.
